April Runs

… hikes, kickbikes, skis and more

Running the dunes

Saturday was our first morning without April – sunny and bright sky but the house was awfully quiet and we both felt rather empty. We decided to gear up with our new Team AprilRuns running shirts and hit the road to the dunes near Noordwijk. We have the 1/2M distance to run next month so why not to try how far we could go today.

We parked the car and quickly found a forest trail at the edge of the dunes. The views over the blossoming tulip fields were fantastic:

As we ran on, the paths started to fill up with bikers, hikers and other runners. Also, the paths started getting a bit hilly.

After about 7 km’s, we tested our fast-energy banana sticks (grrrr, awful) and decided to run further. Then at 10 km’s, our legs still felt fresh enough to continue and we decided to check the beach café nearby (well – sort of nearby). The truth is: we did not want to return to our quiet house… so we ended up with the total of 16.5 km, V’s longest run ever.

  1. Well done guys, that’s a fantastic run!
So the banana energy sticks are a no-no… have you tried gel shots yet? I’m going to pick some up next time from the health store… hopefully they’ll be better than the sticks!
Congrats V on your longest run ever, not far from the 1/2 distance, you’re almost there 🙂 I can see April running with you both x

    • As our runs progress in length, we are starting to experiment with energy intake. Apart from the banana PowerBar sticks, we have some gels ready to test next time. But honestly, so far, I run the best with crusli/milk breakfast and coffee.
Looking forward to your next run blog!

  2. That’s a beautiful pic of the tulips and a great distance. I use the High5 energygel and isogel gels – they are the least gloopy and sugary and I find they don’t upset my stomach.

    • Thank you for the tip on gels, will check the local sport store. Anything sugary is a no go for me, I just don’t like the sweet taste in my mouth. Give me beer and dark bitter chocolate instead.
